CGA Golf Swap and Junior Golf Experience returns for 2010 Denver Golf Expo
Debuts at Southern Colorado Golf Expo
By Diana Rowe

Get a new set of clubs for Christmas? Looking for a great deal on a driver at the Expo? Help a good cause and donate your used clubs or purchase your replacement set at the CGA Golf Club Swap during the 2010 Denver Golf Expo or Southern Colorado Golf Expo!
The CGA’s Youth Programs needs your donations for its annual Golf Club Swap at the 2010 Denver Golf Expo & Southern Colorado Golf Expo. If you’re in the market for the odd iron, a proven driver or a starter set for someone special, visit the CGA’s Golf Club Swap during either show. You’ll find great deals on previously owned equipment, and you’ll do something good for your community.
“Every dollar raised through the swap will go directly into the youth program, earmarked for kids who need help,” says Dustin Jensen, CGA’s Director of Youth Programs. “Much of the equipment in the swap is provided by clubs and pros who have asked members to donate clubs of all types, makes and sizes that they no longer use.”
Individuals may also donate clubs and choose to collect 70 percent of the selling price, with the balance going to CGA Youth Programs, or simply allow the CGA to keep all of the proceeds. Due to the organization’s non-profit status, any donations are eligible to be used as a tax deduction.
The annual golf swap raises much needed funds for its youth developmental programs. These proceeds go directly to CGA Youth Programs, a non-profit entity that supports developmental programs such as those offered by Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Colorado, Boy Scouts of Colorado, LPGA/USGA Girls Golf, Special Olympics, Ridgeview Academy, Pikes Peak Linkers, First Tee and Open Fairways.
CGA also continues to actively support the Junior Golf Experience during the Expo. According to Jensen, “Last year, more than 600 kids enjoyed the Expo’s Junior Golf Experience. We’re excited to look forward to 2010 and getting more kids involved in the game.”
The Colorado Junior Golf Association in conjunction with the Colorado PGA will be re-launching www.ColoradoJuniorGolf.org at the 2010 Denver Golf Expo & Southern Colorado Golf Expo.
“This web site is designed to serve as a central location for all junior golf programs within the state,” explains Jensen. “This continues as a collaborative effort between the junior golf entities within Colorado whom have come together to form the Colorado Junior Committee. We want to be a live road map to getting kids involved and get them into golf. The Expo’s Junior Golf Experience is a no-pressure way to spark the interest in the game of golf.”
If you can stand and hold the club, you can take a swing at the Junior Golf Experience. Jensen reports that last year kids as young as ages 2-3 were hitting the BirdieBall.

Developmental Youth Programs
The CGA’s Developmental Youth Programs exists for the purpose of supporting programs that foster and promote the exposure of the game of golf and its inherent values of integrity, sportsmanship and self-discipline to young people who would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the game.
- Special Olympics - Special Olympics is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition. Mentors and athletes are taught together, to reinforce skills learned. Manners and patience are stressed so that all can enjoy the activity. It is our ultimate goal to have teams we can sponsor in the national tournament held in Florida each fall.
- LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Aurora- Established in 2005, this program is dedicated solely to introducing girls to the game in an accepting and nurturing environment. The program consists of 16 events from May to October. The program follows a curriculum designed to teach introductory and intermediate skill levels the golf swing, course management, Rules of Golf, and golf course etiquette. Through the span of the program girls not only learn the game but they build character, friendships and life skills. In 2006, the Girl Scouts of America joined forces with the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Aurora developing a dynamic partnership that introduced even more girls to the game.
- Big Brothers/Big Sisters - The Big Brothers/Big Sisters Mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with measurable impact. We’ve created a development program for boys and girls who are paired with their big brothers or sisters, coming to our facility over a six-month period. It is a fundamentals approach, emphasizing the great companionship aspect of playing the game.
- Open Fairways - Open Fairways is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk and underprivileged children through the game of golf and its core values of honor, etiquette, respect and their application on and off the course. Mira Vista Golf Course continues to serve as the home venue for this well respected and well rounded program.
