Hall of Fame Inductees

Warren Smith

Hall of Fame Inductee of 1978

Warren Smith first came to Cherry Hills Country Club in 1963 from Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, where he had been head golf professional for 16 1/2 years. In Warren's 27 years with Cherry Hills, his love and pride in the club established it as one of the premier golf operations in the country. Warren and Cherry Hills hosted the 1978 U.S. Open, the 1985 PGA Championship, the 1976 U.S. Senior Amateur, 1983 U.S. Mid-Amateur and the 1990 U.S. Amateur.

Warren was one of the first directors of the Colorado Section PGA and five times served as section president (1965, '66, '69, '73 and '74). In 1973 he was named Colorado Section Golf Professional of the Year.

One of Warren's greatest honors was being named national Golf Professional of the Year by the PGA of America in 1973, for his lifetime achievement in golf. In 1985, Warren joined a handful of individuals when he was selected for honorary membership at Cherry Hills. Not only is he a 1978 inductee to the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame, but he was also the organization's 1990 Golf Person of the Year. Warren retired as head professional at Cherry Hills at the end of 1990.

In 2005, Warren was inducted into the national PGA of America Golf Professional Hall of Fame. The Colorado PGA has named a lifetime achievement award in his honor.
