Eaton Chalks Up Another CWGA Title
Senior Stroke Play marks her 9th individual CWGA crown

Winning never seems to get old for Kim Eaton, which is a good thing because otherwise she’d be really bored at this point.
The golfer from Greeley, who started winning state titles 33 years ago, added to her already-crowded trophy case on Wednesday by claiming her second consecutive CWGA Senior Stroke Play championship.
The outcome at Perry Park Country Club in Larkspur marked the ninth time Eaton has won an individual CWGA title, and the third consecutive CWGA senior championship she’s earned since turning 50 last August.
First CGA Team Interclub a Hit
40 teams entered event; after round-robin, playoffs start in August

When the CGA decided to add another championship to its schedule for 2010, executive director Ed Mate had high hopes for the participation level in the Team Interclub.
“I’d be thrilled if we got 32 teams (for this year),” Mate said in October. “That would be more than a home run.”
Well, based on those expectations, the CGA did more than “go yard.” It hit for the cycle.

Clark Wins CGA Stroke Play at Age 16
He prevails in playoff after Knous sets course record with 60

Just when it seemed like the CGA Stroke Play Championship would be hard-pressed to top what happened in last year’s tournament, it may have done just that.
A summer after Steve Ziegler completed the first Match Play/Stroke Play CGA title sweep since 1985, Wyndham Clark and Jim Knous added another stellar chapter to a tournament that dates back to 1937.
How’s this for a 1-2 punch? At the age of 16 years and 8 months, Clark became the youngest winner of the CGA Stroke Play since 1971, when Boulder’s Bob Byman claimed the title before he was 16½. But Clark’s feat happened only after Knous bettered the Boulder Country Club course record by two strokes in firing a 10-under-par 60.
Connor Rakowski of Carbondale shot a 2-under-par 70 on Sunday and won the CGA Western Chapter Championship by four strokes at The Links at Cobble Creek in Montrose.
Rakowski, a golfer at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont., finished the two-day tournament with a 7-under-par 137 total. The Basalt High School graduate shared the lead after the first round with Dean Clapp of Aurora and Drew Trujillo of Montrose.
Allen Goes the Distance for Title
Dakota Ridge grad edges Ahern for CGA Jr. Match Play crown

The temperature reached the mid-90s, and in the previous two days, the finalists had each played more than 60 holes of tournament golf, also in very hot conditions.
So what did Nick Allen and John Ahern do on Friday? They played what is believed to be the longest match in the history of the CGA Junior Match Play Championship.
Allen, from Raccoon Creek Golf Course, defeated Ahern on Ahern’s home course 1 up in 36 holes to capture the Junior Match Play title at Bear Creek Golf Club in west Denver.
Paige Spiranac of Mixed Stix blew away the competition after firing three consecutive rounds under par. Spiranac carded a 66 the first round, 69 the second round and 72 the final round for a three-day total of 207. Shinwoo Lee of Kennedy Golf Course was named runner-up with a three-day total of 217. Wiebe Rallies to Claim First CGA Title
Hole-winning triple bogey sparks Gunner to Match Play crown

Perhaps it’s happened before in the 110-year history of the CGA Match Play Championship, but certainly very rarely in the title match, and Gunner Wiebe said it was the turning point in his victory Friday at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora.
Wiebe won a hole despite making a triple bogey, and he used his good fortune to help turn a deficit into a tournament-clinching win. The 21-year-old from Cherry Hills Country Club, who never led until after 31 holes of the 36-hole finale, rallied for a 2 and 1 victory over University of Denver golfer Klinton Krieger and claimed his first CGA championship.

Former CSU golfer wins Public Links for first CGA title

Being denied victory a few times can make winning all the sweeter when it does eventually happen.
Just ask Riley Arp about that.
The Collindale Golf Club regular finished second three times as a college player, but never did win an individual title during his career at Colorado State University. And it looked like things might play out similarly for Arp in CGA championships, where he often contended but never won.
Never until Sunday, that is. In what was, ironically, his final CGA championship before he turns pro next month, Arp claimed his first CGA title, winning the Public Links trophy at Hyland Hills Golf Course in Westminster.
“To say the least, I’ve wanted it,” said Arp, who plans to make his pro debut at next month’s HealthOne Colorado Open. COMPLETE STORY AND RESULTS
Melissa Martin of Bookcliff CC defended her title as CWGA Stroke Play Champion. Martin started the final round two strokes behind leader Kim Eaton of Riverdale GC. Mertz finishes strong for CGA Senior Match Play title

The last time Guy Mertz had won an individual CGA championship, Ronald Reagan was still President.
Yes, it had been that long.
But, after a close call last year left him even hungrier for a title, the Fox Hill Country Club member finally ended the victory drought on Friday at Heritage Todd Creek in Thornton.

Cody Kent and Jonathan Park have prided themselves on being two of the best junior golfers in Colorado over the last few years, but major statewide victories have been elusive for both.
With this summer being their last hurrah in the junior ranks, Kent and Park have put a high priority on rectifying that situation. And with both players being in or near the lead during Wednesday’s final round of the CGA Junior Stroke Play, one of them was going to leave the Country Club at Castle Pines a happy camper.
After a day that featured three lead changes, Park was the one left smiling. The 18-year-old from CommonGround Golf Course trailed by two strokes with four holes to play, but used a hot putter to emerge the champion.
Lindsay McGetrick of Colorado Golf Club defeated defending champion Somin Lee of HeatherRidge GC 1 up after a nailbiting 18 holes. McGetrick sunk a 25-foot birdie putt to claim her first CWGA title. GET COMPLETE RESULTS
Gary and Alex Kephart of Eisenhower Golf Club won their third CGA Father/Son Championship, prevailing by two strokes Sunday at Eagle Ranch Golf Course in Eagle.
The Kepharts, who previously won in 2005 and 2007, joined Bob and Erik Heiny (1989, ’91 and ’92) as the only three-time winners of the event, which debuted in 1983.

Jon Lindstrom of The Heritage at Westmoor and Dean Clapp of Meadow Hills Golf Course won their second consecutive CGA Two-Man Team Championship on Friday, becoming the first pair to win the open division of the event twice.
Lindstrom and Clapp made a par on the first playoff hole (No. 9) at Coal Creek Golf Course to defeat Erik Hogan of Buffalo Run Golf Course and Kai Koponen of Ptarmigan Country Club. Both teams matched scores for the second straight day -- 64-70 -- to force sudden death. Tad Willenbrock of Glenmoor Country Club and Jim Doidge of Pueblo Country Club finished third with a 138 total.

To paraphrase Bob Dylan, perhaps the answer was blowing in the wind for Chris Carlson and Michael Love on Tuesday.
Despite very challenging conditions for golf, Carlson and Love kept their mistakes to a minimum and held off some tough competition to win the CGA Four-Ball title at windblown Legacy Ridge Golf Course. It marked the first CGA championship for Love and the second for Carlson, who won the CGA Mid-Amateur in 2004.
