Honored Inductee - RICK DEWITT

Born Oct. 14, 1956, Rick Dewitt graduated from Regis High School in 1975 and also attended Red Rocks Community College. Few golfers have dominated their generation as Rick R. Dewitt. A 27-year member of the Colorado Golf Association, Dewitt has been the CGA’s player of the year no fewer than five times. That’s just one of the many accomplishments the Arvada resident and president of Augusta Construction, Inc., has done in golf.

DeWitt began playing golf at age 12 after driving the golf cart for his dad. Just two short years after that introduction to golf, a course opened near Rick’s home, where he played as much golf as he could. He’s been a force on the golf course ever since.

His major accomplishments, prior to his induction into Colorado Golf Hall of Fame include: Colorado Player of the Year 1991, ’95, ’96, ’98, ’99; Colorado Golf Association Mid-Amateur champion titles in 1991, ’94, ’96, ’99, 2000, ’01; CGA Stroke Play champion 1999; CGA Public Links champion 1999. He has been on the Amateur Colorado Cup Team 16 consecutive years from 1986-2002 and has competed in the Colorado Open every one of those years as well. Rick has also qualified for three U.S. Amateurs, five U.S. Mid-Amateurs, four U.S. Amateur Public Links and three U.S. State Team Championships. Rick has also been named seven times to the Pacific Coast Team representing Colorado.

Rick has a unique pre-shot alignment routine that has brought him and his game to the media’s attention. He was recently featured as one of the nation’s top amateurs in the May 4, 2002 issue of Golfweek and in a 2000 USGA Golf Journal, where his routine was highlighted. It involves placing a club on the ground to aid with his shot alignment and then has the club removed by his caddie prior to hitting.

It is appropriate, then, that Dewitt is in construction. Because he is building quite an impressive golf record.
