Miranda, Connell Receive Hall Passes
Two longtime pros voted into Colorado Golf Hall of Fame
by Gary Baines - February 26, 2010

Gene Miranda of Colorado Springs (top photo) and Tom Connell of Denver, both mainstays in Colorado golf for the last 40 years, were elected to the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame on Friday.

Miranda, best known as the golf coach at the Air Force Academy for more than a quarter-century, and Connell, who retired in 2009 after 28 years as the head professional at Denver Country Club, will be inducted on Oct. 3 at Cherry Hills Country Club.

“To me this is tops,” Miranda said when asked what the impending induction means to him. “To be nominated by my peers in the (Colorado) PGA is an honor in itself. And to be selected to join so many other great people … This sport has given me much more than I can ever repay.”

As for Connell, his reaction was low-key.

“I tend to stay below the radar,” he said. “I’ve done a few things.” --READ ARTICLE

Hall of Fame Feels Loss of Two Inductees
In the past few months the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame has lost two of its' members: Dorothy Heithler and Vivian Dorsey. Dorothy was inducted in 1999 and played out of Green Gables Country Club. Vivian was inducted in 1982 and played out of Wellshire Golf Course. Both of these women were champions of their time. It was my great pleasure to have competed against Vivian. Both of these women were forces within the Colorado Women's Golf Association and Colorado Golf and will be greatly missed.

The Hall of Fame Golf Tournament was a Huge Success!
The 2009 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Golf Tournament have come to an end. What a success both were. Over 200 for dinner at the beautiful Lakewood CC and 28 teams competed in the tournament at Lakewood CC. I believe everyone had a great time. I would like to thank all of my hole sponsors and my two major sponsor, Rich Billings and Pat Hamill. Mark your calender for next year when the event will be at Cherry Hills Country Club sometime in October. -- Kim Eaton, Executive Director
